Car Safety
Technology and its increases have brought about many conveniences to every day life. Many of these have brought safety to the forefront. In the area of automotive, it holds even truer. Safety is the most important issue in automotive design anymore. After years of injuries, deaths, and other flaw related problems, laws have been enacted to require improvements in new vehicles that deal with the known dangers. If the manufacturers don’t comply, their vehicles can’t be licensed for use on the roads. Before every house had a car, when the cars were lucky to do 55 miles an hour on a highway, and even the roads traveled slower, safety wasn’t as much a concern. Way back, the biggest danger might have been a spooked horse when they saw your car. That has changed in the last 75 years especially.

With the cars going upwards of 120mph now, along with the raised speed limits to facilitate more travel and quicker, there is also an awful lot more that can go wrong, and a lot more stress on the vehicles as well. There are many more safety concerns that come with this.

The driver isn’t off the hook either, as technology is a long way from replacing this role. Paying attention is the most important safety there is!

They have added a lot more though in the area of safety in vehicle technology. These include many computerized devices to monitor different aspects of the moving vehicle and make adjustments, including things ranging from optimal running onto anti-lock breaks. Many vehicles also have sensors to remind you of a number of things, such as over speed and unbuckled seatbelts. There are also more conventional fixes, such as child safety locks, and windows that are also child safe. Things like daytime running lights make the car stick out more even on bright days, and lights with wipers can be the difference between being seen or being crashed into. Most of these features are now mandatory on all new cars.

Cruise control, while optional, can help reduce driver fatigue, and provides some additional safety too.

Many additional accident impact reducing features have also been added. These include better seat belts that integrate with airbags that take further impact off. One thing to remember with these 2, is they work hand in hand. The airbag can hurt you without the seatbelt on. On the other hand, the seatbelt in itself has its limits. One important feature to keep on top of is the switch that allows you to turn off the passenger side airbag in the front seat. This is for when there is a child in a safety seat in that seat. Child safety seats have their own features that don’t work with the airbag. Make sure it’s off if your child is in that seat in a safety seat. When there is a passenger using just the seat belt, make sure the airbag is on. This will save lives and limit injuries in accidents. It’s not just a good idea… It’s the law.

Car safety is a very important aspect of everyday life. Those making them have to do extensive testing to be sure they are safe in known dangerous scenarios, and even have to look further for those that aren’t known yet. The drive is towards keeping the passengers safer, and all damage even further from them. Impact zones in the vehicles help do this.
